Imphal, December 11:
The secretary of the state unit of the CPI(M), M Shamu, called on the Governor, Ved Prakash Marwah today and submitted a memorandum carrying a 14-point charter of demands.
The CPI(M) among other things, called for holding the elections to the state Assembly in the month of February and immediate release of three months salary for state government employees.
M Shamu, in his meeting with the Governor also drew the urgent attention of the latter to the ongoing relay hunger strike of the MPSC-recommended lecturership nominees and their demand for immediate appointment.
The Governor has reportedly promised to look into the matter.
The CPI(M) also strongly opposed the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance, and demanded that it should not be implemented in Manipur.
It also demanded that all draconian laws should be removed.
It also urged the administration to take all possible means to save the live of Irom Sharmila.
The other demands raised in the memorandum included protection of national highways through the deployment of highways protection force, launching of initiative to hold talks with UG groups without any preconditions and presentation of a white paper on the state economy.
It also demanded that tile government step back on the policy of abolition of 14,300 posts and urged that the ban on recruitment should be lifted immediately.
